About Explore Hari Parbat
The Hari Parbat Fort is positioned on the western side of the Dal Lake. It is one of the earliest forts of the Jammu and Kashmir region that originated in the period of Mughal emperors. This striking structure was designed and built by Atta Mohammed Khan, an Afghan Governor in 18th century. In 1590, a long wall was built by Emperor Akbar. From the top of the fort, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Dal Lake and at the bottom are various structures from many religions. The fort itself is maintained by the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) and still has an old-worldly charm with its partitions and tall pillars. To get to the fort, you will pass amazing almond orchards which are in full bloom in the month of April.
